PRISM is a complete, fully customisable Renal Information System designed to serve the needs of a large complex tertiary Renal Service now and far into the future with little or no vendor support. It is an Engineered Software product, with advanced internal and external validation and safety systems to prevent both user and developer error from causing patient harm, data loss, or serious application failure.

PRISM's flexible and adaptable modular design allows a Service to configure data storage, display, process support, reporting and communication subsystems to suit local habits and preferences.

Commercial products do not exist with these features. "Home made" products lack scalability, flexibility, longevity and are unlikely to be "Engineered" for use at high reliability level.

Key Features

• Timeline/Event System - very flexible. Multi-level Events can be set up to record whatever is required in your unit. Modality and access status is integrated and automated high-level validation can be configured to ensure data quality and reliability.
• Laboratory results - feed can be set up via an HL7 mailbox, and result code mapping is user-configurable, and can be shared between installations.
• Medication Management - Advanced medication tracking and prescribing system with configurable safety warning systems and possibility for external access from primary care or dispensing pharmacies.
• User-Configurable - Involvement from hospital Information Services is helpful but not necessary for configuration and maintenance. Custom reports do require some expertise and are SQL-based with parameter support, which is the universal standard Database Query language. A Data Dictionary and test database can be made available.
• Security and Privacy - PRISM is hosted in a secure tier 3 commercial datacentre on a dedicated server. A security policy is available detailing user-level security, access control, backup, audit and physical security.
• Performance - The simple text-based HTML interface and dedicated hosting environment means PRISM is very fast, faster than your DHBs internally hosted web applications and significantly faster than modern javascript based (AJAX) applications, especially if your hospital has vintage network hardware and slow internet access. This comes at the cost of a slightly "clunky" user interface.
